On August 5, 2008 at 1:55 a.m., The Georgetown Fire Company, along with the Ellendale Fire Department (Station 75), the Georgetown American Legion Ambulance Service (Station 93), and Sussex County EMS, was alerted for a reported structure fire in a vacant residence. 2
nd Assistant Chief Mark Rogers, working his regular patrol shift with the Georgetown Police Department, was first on scene and advised incoming units that the single story structure was fully involved with exposure to a second home, and to use caution due to an electric service line having fallen off the residence.
77-Command with Deputy Chief Penuel Barrett arrived on scene and assumed command, advising Engine 77-4 and Tanker-77’s crews to place 2 handlines in service and begin an exterior attack on the fire. With help from additional units and members from Station 75, the fire was quickly knocked down. Crews began the lenghty task of overhauling the fire. The situation was placed under control at 2:13, with units clearing at 3:18. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshall’s office for investigation.
