Tonight we were alerted for a outside fire, 300 Block of N Railroad Ave. While enroute Deputy Chief Mark Rogers was notified by Sussex County Public Safety Dispatch, additional 911 calls reporting fire had extended to a structure. We were re-alerted and mutual aide departments dispatched for the box response. Deputy Chief Rogers arrived on scene established 77 Command, fire showing from an abandoned 20'x30' Type 5 structure with small explosions coming from inside. Also an area of woods on fire along the railroad tracks on Side C. Engine 77-4's crew stretched putting a 200ft. 1 3/4" line in service, established water supply & setup ground ladder. Engine-Tanker 77's crew split doing primary search, assisted interior crew with overhaul & put a booster line in service for the woods fire on Side C. Mutual aide companies assisted with secondary search & additional overhaul. Special thank you to EMS Crew from Georgetown American Legion, Sta. 93 for assisting first arriving unit. The Georgetown Fire Company urges our citizens to become familiar with fire prevntion in their homes and busisnesses. Our members hold public fire prevention activities in classrooms, public gatherings, and at our station.
In 1937 the company established an annual fund-raising effort known as the “Oyster Eat” Hundreds gather here each February to enjoy the food and fellowship of the event, which has been recognized by the United States Congress for its historical and cultural significance.
